dual monitor, help!!!

Good evening,

I do all my post on a pc with xp pro. I have a crt monitor and a benq dv monitor. both have been working fine. Out here on the fringes we have power outs often enough. When the power goes out i have to reset my primary and secondary monitors.
the other night I booted up the computer and only the crt will come on. The DV states it is not receiving a signal. I went back to set the monitor and the window with the two monitors on it does not even show, just a single and no possible way to get to the second monitor.
I went through the trouble shooter and can't find anything with which might help me.
I turned off the crt to see if the dv would come up as the only computer, to no avail.
Is it possible my card is not functioning or is it possible the monitor is faulty? I plugged and repluged all the cables to make sure conections were not loose.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!! I have become so dependant on two windows it seems crippling to be using adobe with one monitor.

What card(s) are you using and what outputs?

Would be good to know the exact configuration. Graphic card as well as whether you are running any special desktop software like NView from NVidia

The fact that you have to reset your display settings after a power outage tells me that something is wromg allready. This shouldnt happen

Are you saying that in the monitor settingss you are seeing two displays but cant select the second one or you are only seeing one display in the settings dialog.

If you are only seeing one make sure the drivers are installed correctly (BTW did you download the newest drivers from your graphic card vendors site ?)

if you are seeing two but one is not selectable there may be a setting there that sets whether you want to use both screens.

Thank you

I got the problem solved today!! As it turned out it was a faulty monitor!!!
I had the computer made to order for video editing and never had to download anything.

The funny thing is I never buy extended warranties!!! the young guy selling me the dv monitor did a great sales pitch and I bought one for the first time!!! I took it in and they just replaced the monitor.
I got home worrying it may be my nividea 6800g force card!! I plugged it in and all is well in the universe.

thank you for taking the time to help!!!

Gus
