Re: Editing on a laptop?

Regarding Dolby TrueHD, I found this:
Dolby Media Encoder Client
But, the program is Mac only and no pricing is given without having to contact Dolby. In other words, EXPENSIVE.

Regarding DTS-HDMA, I found this:
DTS-HD Master Audio Suite? | DTS
But that's $1,495. Too rich for my blood.

I think I'll stick with Dolby Digital 5.1 (ac3) audio.

Re: Editing on a laptop?

I just wanted to say a big "Thank you" to those of you that responded in this thread. I purchased the Sager and it arrived yesterday. Windows 8.1 64bit is all set up to my liking and Adobe Creative Cloud (especially Premiere) is working great!

Harm, I ended up purchasing a 512GB Samsung SSD 840 Pro and installing it. So, now I have...

C:\ <-- Crucial 256GB mSATA3 SSD for OS and Program Files/Installations
D:\ <-- Crucial 512GB mSATA3 SSD
E:\ <-- Samsung 512GB SSD 840 Pro
F:\ <-- 1TB 7200rpm SATA2
V:\ <-- 6X BD-R Blu-ray Burner/8X DVD±R/2.4X +DL Super-Multi Drive & Software

You said...
Quote:
mSATA OS disk: 256 GB Corsair M550. OK. OS and page-file.
mSATA Drive 2: 512 GB Corsair M550. OK. Media cache, preview.
Hard disk drive 1: I would suggest a 512 GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD. Media & Projects.
If I am understanding you correctly, I should save my Premiere Project files and raw footage to the E:\ drive and set up the Video & Audio Previews to the D:\ drive. Is that correct? What happens if something on the D:\ drive gets deleted? Does this simply mean that Premiere has to re-render any previews that it created in a previous session?

Thanks!

Re: Editing on a laptop?

Chet,

How is your editing laptop going and how much was the final cost?

I'm in the market to get one so that I can edit in the field (or on the plane on the way back).

Re: Editing on a laptop?

Andrew,

I am LOVING the heck out of this laptop. I am actually sitting in an airport as I type this message.

Final cost was $3,404, but your price will obviously vary due to options. This laptop is crazy fast. Although, shooting in 10-BIT 4:2:2 Apple ProRES HD, I am already starting to run low on hard drive space. That's what externals are for though. :)

Re: Editing on a laptop?

How much life are the batteries giving when it comes to editing, and/or 'regular' usage patterns?
