Enosoft, a new digital video software technology company, today announced the release of its first commercial offering. The Enosoft Enhanced DV Decoder is designed to improve the productivity of video editors using DV-based video footage with Microsoft Windows-based computing platforms.

The DV video format has become an almost de facto standard for both consumer and professional video makers. Coupled with the development of faster personal computers, high quality videos can be edited entirely in the digital domain at a very affordable price. Furthermore, the DV format enables valuable information to be stored along with the video, such as the date and time of the recording, the camera settings and the timecode.

A consumer video format with frame-accurate timecode capability has been a long sought after requirement. Though this has been a reality for a few years, there is a striking lack of software available that permits editors to easily navigate video footage in the manner that broadcast facilities have enjoyed for many years. Even the leading non-linear editing applications for personal computers provide little or no support for accessing the valuable information contained within the DV data.

The Enosoft Enhanced DV Decoder addresses these issues by replacing the standard DV decoder supplied with Microsoft Windows-based computing platforms. The new decoder can superimpose text onto the decoded video frame. This is achieved by using a specially-written text overlay engine within the decoder that results in minimal processing overhead. For the end-user, a DV-based video file can be opened in the standard Windows Media Player and the information such as date, time, video format, audio format and timecode can be seen superimposed on the video.

The Enosoft Enhanced DV Decoder is the first commercial offering from Enosoft that uses a new DV encoder/decoder engine that is central to a number of new utilities aimed at video editors of DV material on the Windows platform.
