AVID for Free and FCP at a Discount

I just saw these links on another board that I visit (studentfilms.com) and thought they were very interesting and that I should share them here also.

I found the AVID link very interesting. AVID Free Dv - an editing system from AVID for FREE! Hmm. Hey, I signed up for it.

And this is a scaled down FCP from APPLE for $299.

Just passing on the info. Not pushing one way or the other! Oh, and if this is against board rules (advertising or anything), please let me know and I won't do it again.

Good luck.

Right, I checked out the registration for Avid FreeDV, and it had a required field for "Company", now, I thought that anyone can get at it?
If you have to have a company in order to get FreeDV, you more than likely can afford Xpress DV, which would be better.

Now, I was tired when I read it, so I probably got something wrong or missed something, but is this true?
That I have to enter a company name in order to get FreeDV?

AvidFreeDv is aimed at introducing the iMovie fans to a professional looking interface. It is also designed to allow people who are unfamiliar with avid, to familiarize themselves with the workflow and features, before commiting major bucks. One of the most commont lines in threads on teh Avid forum is ..."In PREMIERE, it's so easy to..." or "In Premiere, there's a tool that does xyz, how do I do that in Avid.."

I doubt that you will need to be a company to get a copy, but it's possible the field is a necessary field in the email form.

Just make up a name.

Hehe, right. I'm not coming from Premiere or Pinnacle or somesuch, I'm an Avid fan already ;)

Been using Avid Xpress DV for almost two years now, as I'm majoring in film editing at my school. Now, I graduate by the end of May, so then I'll be off into the big world and I won't have access to all the fancy stuff in my school (DV decks, Avid, cameras, mics, DAT-decks and whatnot) and I'll need to stand on my own legs. FreeDV might help me make some of that starter cash, in order for me to afford a full-blown editing machine at home.

Full-blown and full-blown, a full-blown DV editing machine I should say ;)

*thinks up company name*
