Dell 1920x1200 screen
 

Hi.
I am thinking of buying the Dell xps m1710 with 1.83 duo processor, 1GB mem, Go 7900- 256mb, (which I know does not really help Vegas) and with 17 wuxga true brite 1920x1200.
Do you think this is a good machine to eliminate my desk top, using external drives?
How will Vegas look with this 1920x1200 native screen?
Can I change the resolution en windows if I wanted to run other aplications. ( I have read on forums that word etc is much reduced on this screen?)
Any other coments welcome.

i tried a friends HP that had a 17" 1920x1200 screen ...
things are pretty small ... i preferred 1650x1050 ( approx) setting ..
one thing i did notice on the HP ( might be same on dell??) at 1920x1200 the LCD is super sharp .. at any other setting i found the 17" LCD to be a little soft - especially on TEXT .. IMO if you are paying for 1920x1200 make sure you'll be using it because at other settings it is NOT the BEST ...and OK is just OK ( not good enough for my eyes)

Unlike CRT monitors, all LCD screens have a native resolution at which they look best. While CRT monitors look good at any resolution, changing an LCD to anything other than the native resolution results in degraded image quality.

That said, there are some things one can do to enlarge elements without changing the native resolution of an LCD. You can enlarge the system fonts. To do this, right click on the desktop, and choose Properties. In the Display Properties box choose the Appearance tab. There will be a Font size drop-down box from which you can choose enlarged fonts. You can also enlarge the system icons from here. Click on Effects and check the “Use large icons” option.

As far as Microsoft Word goes, all you have to do is increase the document magnification. There should be a drop-down box on the Word toolbar to do just that.

Here in Costa Rica Toshiba has a pretty good deal on their P105-S921 which has 1440x900 "True brite".
How would this screen be for Vegas?
Has anyone here used this computer for editing?
