PC for video editing : Questions

Hi all Dv Info Members

I know it has been asked thousands of times but i am asking the question again

What equipment do u use to edit your video?

I was lucky that the first editing system i built worked well and has worked non stop for about 3 years

it comprised of :
biostar skt 478 motherboard
2.4 P4 processor
1gb ddr 400 ram
msi nvida 5200 128mb 8x agp videocard
40 gb ide system drive
120 gb ide storage drive
Ads firewire card
Soundblaster live soundcard

i ran Ulead mediastudio pro / avid / etc

Unfortunately the processor fan went bad, and it shutdown, due to heat.

i replaced the fan but even though the system works, and i am typing this thread on it now, it dosent work as it used to, frequent shut downs audio out of sync etc.

I have reinstalled the software (clean system install) but still problems so i figure it is time to upgrade

I shoot video using my trusty Sony Pdx 10 which at present works great and i have a Jvc brdv3000u deck for playback of min dv and full size dv tapes

But i am looking at besides a Computer upgrade an all round equipment upgrade i like the Sony fx7 mostly due to its 20x zoom and i am also looking at the Sony z1u and have been reading about the Sony V1u

i would like to thank Gary from video guys because he has helped me by replying promptly to my questions

Actually i was in the process of buying a system but things didnt go as planned

the system was :
Asus P5LD2 Deluxe
Pentium D 940 Processor
2gb ddr2 667mhz ram Kingston Hyper X
Pny Quadro FX 560 video card
2 250gb sata2 HD one for system one for storage

Now when i was doin this system i wasnt contemplating HD video now i am

I would like to know what systems other members are using and what software and the parts they used in their configuration or if they are using premade systems e.g HP DELL Sony

I am also interested in how many members edit on a laptop and their laptop systems what make model specifications etc

Also any problems encoutered with software etc (laptop and desktop)
