BIG problems capturing from Z1

Hello all,
I have got a Z1E and I have got some problems:

I wanted to capture a tape, downconverting through firewire with Scenalyzer.
After about 12 minutes: scenalyzer crashed.
No warnings or whatsoever.
Scenalyzer wouldn't capture anymore.
Tried capturing with HDVsplit: same thing happened.

The avi's wouldn't import in PP2, [pro keeps hanging] but would play in Windows Media Player.

Tried capturing the same tape with my HC1, same problems.

Checked cables, pc and tape, tried antoher pc and firewire cable...

Tried to shoot another tape [brandnew] and capturing with the Z1.
DV downconverting -ok
HDV capturing - HDVsplit failed capturing after a few minutes with the message: 'no data is received from the camcorder so HDVsplit stopped capturing'

Tried again with the HC1: Same problems...

First thing that came to mind: FireWire port blown.

Second thing, after troubleshooting: Could it be possible my Z1 is shooting wrong to tape [...] and therefore delivering problems when capturing to pc?

Leaving for the holidays tomorrow, so primesupport has to wait until next week.
What a shame.

Anyone has had the same problems?

This really sounds like a computer problem and not a camera problem to me. The fact that you had similar problems with the HC1 would further support that theory. If you had a blown firewire port then I don't think you would receive any data at all from the camera.

My *guess* is that it's related to your computer hardware/software setup. Since I'm on the Mac I can't help much there. But I will move this post to the PC forum and leave a re-direct here. Hopefully another Windows user can offer some insights.

Similar problems with the same tape shot with the Z1, not with the tapes shot with the HC-1.

Gildo,

So that others may help you better, you need to list the specifications on your PC system. Processor, RAM, etc., etc..........

Thanks--Mike

Depending on what you're trying to do, make sure the camera is set properly. For capturing HDV material at full resolution, put the camera into VCR mode, go to the menu and select IN/OUT REC > VCR HDV/DV > HDV. Then select IN/OUT REC > i.LINK CONV > HDV->DV CONV> OFF.

If you want to use the camera to downconvert your HDV footage to regular DV then you would instead select IN/OUT REC > i.LINK CONV HDV->DV CONV> ON.

All of this assumes that you shot your footage in HDV mode. To do that, switch to camera mode, go to the menu and select IN/OUT REC > REC FORMAT > HDV1080i

Just back from holiday.
Thanks all for your help.
After doing some tests it appears I made a mistake with shooting the last event.
I must have hit a button that screwed things up.
My Z1 is functioning ok.
