"Conforming" Video with Matrox RT.X2

Whenever I import a Quicktime movie into Premiere Pro (Matrox RT.X2) the machine immediately boggs down 'conforming' the video. I get a status indicator at the lower right of the screen with a progress bar indicating such. There is nothing in the help concerning what this is. Does anybody know?

Once this process starts the machine boggs down and is pretty much useless for a few minutes until the conforming finishes or until I clear the movie from the project. My machine is an AMD 4400+ with a Radeon x1900 video card with 528Mb RAM.

Premiere Pro is conforming the audio in the imported video to match the audio sample rate of your project and to ensure real-time playback.
