I'm looking for a laptop. Can all laptops connect to a external fire wire drive?

If you have a fire wire connector on your notebook, yes, but why would you want to sacrifice about three times the performance of an eSATA drive, I don't know. Get an eSATA card and your performance is way, way better than with fire wire or USB2.

Okay eSata connects to the pmcia slot on a laptop? Are only certain laptops eSATA enabled?

Brian,

I'm not sure there are pccard (pcmcia) eSATA adapters, but there are expresscard eSATA adapters. Most new laptops being sold now have expresscard slots. Also, check the specs on any laptop you're looking at, get one that has an SATA drive as its main drive if you can.

I wonder how well the current lot of laptop SATA drives compare to this solid state UATA drives. Man, this Sandisk 32GB solid state drive probably kicks total butt with a SATA interface. Why don't they make their first $600 drive with an interface compatible with today's high end laptops ?
