JVC 505 - "Head Cleaning Required" Message
 

Hi All,

I have a JVC 505 DV camcorder and it was working fine since day 1. Then it started with the "Head Cleaning Required" message and when playing back a tape, no picture was visable, just the blue screen and the error message. Not a distorted picture, but no picture.

I laid out the $25 for the tape head cleaner and it didn't fix it.

Any ideas? Could it be an alignment problem with the head? If so, any pointers on how I could adjust it myself?

Is it an early 505?
 

Some early versions of the cam had a problem with ficticious head clogs. You might want to check with JVC and see if your cam is one of those.

Any idea if that bug resulted in having the warning message only or having both the warning message and no picture?
