New Zealand Voltage Converter - will it fry?
 

Just one quick question. I'm planning to get a seperate charger, but I'm worried that I might plug in my HV20 through a voltage converter and somehow end up frying it when I go to NZ (I got the camera in the U.S.)

What voltage converter would you recommend for sensitive electronic equipment?

I'm struggling to understand exactly what it is you're asking here.

I got the bit about an HV20, which comes (in NZ, at least) with a seperate power supply/ charger box which plugs into the mains at one end and into the HV20 at the other.

Mine says (on the back) "Input 100 - 240 VAC" which means, unless I'm very much mistaken, that it will work on (just about) any AC mains voltage found on the planet.

If yours says likewise, then no problem, it will work anywhere with only a "travel converter" (not an electrical/electronic device, but something to physically adapt the mains plug shape to other physical socket shapes - readily available anywhere in NZ due to large number of foreign visitors).

If your Canon power supply says "100 - 110 Volts ONLY" you have a problem which is not so easily fixed. Have you established that this is the case and thus decided you need a voltage converter for it?

How does this relate to a seperate charger (for what?).

I doubt you will need any voltage converter as most electronics manufactured in recent years work from 100 volts to 250 volts.

What you may need is a plug adaptor, $5 at Walmart.
