Step down ring for wide angle lens
 

I have a lens with a 82mm thread. I bought a 82mm to 72mm step down ring so that I could mount a 72mm wide angle lens with a 82mm front. When i zoom out wide i get the outer edges of the lens in frame. If i mounted a 72mm wide angle lens with a 105mm front, would I still get black edges around the corners of the frame.

Why not get a proper 82mm mount wide angle for your lens and avoid your problems?

I only found one and it wasn't as wide as others that have a smaller diameter.

Have you looked at the WCV-82SC for your camera?

I've looked into it. I was looking for something that would give me more range. I've been shooting a lot of real estate videos in tight spaces. I wanted to get the most in a shot that i could. I noticed that some of the 72mm converters can give you a .4 or .5 I think the WCV-82SC gives a .8

I think the black ring might be coming from the step down ring itself and would be there regardless of what you screwed into the front of it - have you checked to see if you get the black fringe with only the step down ring on the lens? That would make it crystal clear if the problem is what I think or not.

Hmm, 82mm is a big thread. Probably not the range of lenses made for that size compared to 72mm.

Think you may have to get a camera with a 72 mm thread if you want a specific 72 mm W/A lens attachment.

Can't think of anything smaller than the original thread size which won't give you serious "cut off".

Something has to give: either the 72 mm W/A or the 82 mm thread lens.

Oh, the answer to your original question? Yes.

No idea how good it is, but I found the following 82mm WA adapter on the B&H site. No idea what "industrial" might mean in this context.

By the way, what camera are you using? If it has interchangeable lenses you might be able to get a wider angle lens (for a lot of $$$$$ unfortunately)

Thanks for the replies. I will purchase the cavision adapter. It's cheaper than the jvc adapter and gives a wider range. my camera is a jvc hd110u

If I were you I might drop the B&H folks or CAVISION a line to find out exactly what they mean by "industiral". I see on the CAVISION web site that they have several different lens series. They also specifically show several adapters on the JVC

They also mention that it is not zoom through.

In my experience with the quality of filters from Cavision, I would avoid their glass like the plague.

Probably too late but we have the industry standard aftermarket accessory lenses for your camera. . .
