how to shoot a Car Show
 

I'm shooting a small charity car show next Sunday - hotrods, custom cars etc. I'll take the A1 and HV20 and will mix the footage. I might even test out my crane..

I'm expecting lots of people wandering around, getting in the way but if anyone has some specific tips I'd appreciate it.

From a UK perspective...

YMMV, but one of those fluorescent jerkin things (and a friendly smile) may mark you out as an 'Official' videographer, thus making it less likely that people will block your shots. It can also get you through the barriers...

I presume you have a Canon A1, but if it were a Sony A1, I'd deck it out with the XLR Bridge and a stick mic wearing a dead cat. Anything to pimp it up. The biggest camera tends to win any positioning scuffles!

If you're testing out your crane, please do a quick Risk Assessment document first and bring a printed version with you along with a copy of insurance. This will immediately appease any venue management staff (e.g. council) who like to get very excited about such things.

If you interview anybody, as well as getting their name, etc, ask them on-camera if they agree to you using this interview for a web video. That's the minimum you should do, even for a charity gig.

Ohhhh... I never thoughta that. the organisers are already having trouble with Council so they'll go ballistic when they see my DIY crane. It may be safer to leave it home.
