Is the reason SD looks so soft because?

Is the reason SD looks so soft because the new HD TV's are trying to upscale SD?
This is after many hours of testing the only conclusion i can come to. Looking at my glass CRT TV all looks good, when looking at my HD TV all looks soft.

I'm all worn out trying to find a soultion so.....I surrender to the pixel god of HDTV.

Cheers

Of course, if you look at a picture that has a resolution of 720x576 (in my case, from PAL land) on a tv set that has the same resolution, everything will look sharp. But if I edit the same images on my high definition computer monitor, suddenly, it all doesn't look so good anymore.

If you stretch a picture to twice it's original size, it will look softer also.
