Video deposition time date and my laptop

Hows it going,
I may be shooting some depositions with my jvc dv500 which doen not have time date in it. Im hoping to find someting i can use with the firewire as Im going from the cams dv out to the HP laptops DV in. They want me to capture with the latest Ulead so that part is easy enough. Isthere anything like a firewire/dv or usb time date generator that has the date , hours mins and secs.. Oh yeah, heres the kicker....its Vista. Thank You in advance

I've never heard of a time date interface with firewire. More than likely, you'll need to add the time date with the analog out, then connect it through an av to firewire converter (like this: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...Converter.html ). It would be great if they had a direct pass through with the time date but I haven't heard of one.

On a side note, if you need a time date generator, pm me. I have one that I bought a couple years ago for depositions that never materialized. It's a pretty nice unit with it's own small hard case. Only $80 shipped. Here's some pictures in fact : )

Ok, no more shameless plugs for that item. It's just that it's been sitting around and I haven't posted it on the private classifieds yet. But you just motivated me to do that over the weekend. Thanks.

Ben

Yes.

Our Enosoft DV Processor will let you add the time/date etc to the DV as if it were put there by the camera. You can configure it to use the computer's time.

The above puts the date/time in the DV stream but it isn't visible on the video. If you need that, the software can do that, too.

All of this happens while capturing so there is no additional processing needed after capture.

And, finally, it works just dandy with Vista!

That's a great product John! I wish I had known about that sooner.

The DV500U imbeds time code in the recording.

I think you mean that you want the time and date superimposed onto the frames of the video (rather than having the camera display it). As I mentioned, the camera does imbed that information into the recording. What you need is something like what John posted a link to, to extract the information and overlay it on the images. There's a VirtualDub filter that can do it too, somewhere on the web (I used it once a couple years ago).
