Is it possible to have 2 Seperate Firewire Cards in a PC so you can have 2 live sources to feed into Windows Media Encoder. DV mixers are very expensive and Im looking for cheaper options.

Regards

Michael

You can feed two live sources into two separate instances of WME. You can't switch between two sources going into one instance of WME.

You don't have to have separate FireWire cards, either. Most three-port interfaces can happily handle two camcorders at the same time.

If you are interested, we are about to start developing a simple DV switcher that will allow you to do what you are after. I don't know the exact time frame but if you are interested in helping to test it, please let me know.

Yes, IT IS possible!

Sorry to disagree with you on this, John, but yes, you can switch two cameras with one instance of WMEncoder, I did that for a couple of years before going to an external switcher (two cameras connected via firewire into two ports of a three-port FW card on PC). The only drawback is that you loose signal (both audio and video) for a fraction of a second the moment you switch.

I agree...I was assuming Michael was looking for glitch-free switching.

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like its a DV switcher for now.
