Break out boxes

Anybody use one to output component video into your final record deck?

From what I've read, it seems they are made to go from an analog signal into digital. They do digital to analog, but it doesn't appear as that is the function they are primarily designed for. I'm concerned that they might not be as clean as s-video.

Most break out boxes have s-video and phono sockets, in and out.

They are meant for you to be able to get analog sources into the computer, and digital sources from the computer to an analog source (VCR) - that is there job.

Most breakout boxes come as part of a package with software and capture card - Pinnacle DV500+, Matrox RT2500.

Hope I have'nt got the wrong end of the stick.

Hope this helps,

Breakout box

I have the Canopus DV Storm, and use the componant out to my VCR for making VHS tape. It works ok, but I think the camera would work better.

Most breakout boxs (BOB) are part of a NLE system. Some stand alone devices like the Hollywood Dazzle or Sony converter change analog NTSC to DV and then back. This is to facilitate getting your media in and out of your editor. There are some high end stand alone devices that work with component like the Laird Blueflame. They have two versions, one about $1800.00 and another about $3,000.00 if i remember correctly. Check out their site for full details.
