I am new to these boards, and I have a question. Maybe someone can help. I have an 8 channel DVR with BNC outputs. I need to connect the DVR to a flat screen monitor with only a VGA input. Where is the best place to buy a BNC to VGA converter?

I've been retired for a few years from the world of corporate audio visual production, so a lot of things may have changed. If you are dealing with a piece of equipment that has multiple BNC connectors, it was designed to integrate with other gear that was designed to separate component signals as long as possible to avoid cross-talk contamination. Most of my experience dealt with analog equipment, and keeping component signals separated as long as possible made a very big difference in image quality when delivered to the display/record equip.

The fact of the matter is that VGA is a component signal receiver connector device but, what comes in must be sent out correctly ... and that is where I fear I can't properly direct you. Perhaps other, more in-tune technicians can contribute.

8 channel sounds like ur talking about audio, not video. What deck is it? Are there abbreviated descriptions next to the VIDEO out connectors?

If the BNC's are for composite output, then you're going to need what's called a scaler. They're not cheap, and those that are arent worth having. I regularly use Extron, Crestron, and Kramer units at work and they're all quite adequate for the job.

If these are separate RGBHV connectors, then any ol' VGA to BNC cable can do it. Google could point you in the right direction. Any local AV shop that has higher end stuff should be able to get you one too. They're not unique or rare.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess this is a security type DVR? If so, it's probably composite video.

If it's some flavor of SDI, you're going to need a converter. I've no experience in them, though, so someone else will have to make a recommendation on that one.
