Sound card recommendations for Mac G4 AGP

Recently I recorded some very low frequency sounds from MiniDisc through the analog input of the built-in soundcard on my Mac G4 450 AGP graphics for a video project I am working on. The sound lost at least 12db during the transfer. Normally it does pretty well, but I guess it rolls off FAST when the frequency gets too low or high.

What would everybody recommend as a good replacement sound card for my computer, preferably offering digital in AND out? 5.1 is not a necessity. Also, using the Digital input, would any sound recording program automatically recognize that? Thanks.

While people are replying to your query on sound cards, perhaps someone could pass on some recommendations for Mac cards (or Windows) that allow for mixing in 6 channels, and possibly creating a 5.1 encoded track for DVD burns.

Thanks.

To my knowledge you don't need a 5.1 soundcard to create the tracks. It just burns to the DVD that way.
