Here are two still images off of a talk show I am editing for television. It's not hard to tell that the original could be better, but this is the best I can get at the moment from the small basement studio where they shoot NTSC with three Sony Z1Us.

Any of you folks with real life BROADCAST EXPERIENCE willing to import these into your NLE and look at them on a calibrated video monitor? I am not pursuing any special "look" - my main goal is to deliver the best possible footage to the TV studio, leaving enough room for the broadcast engineer for further tweaks if necessary.

Is contrast OK? Video levels? Color correction? Sharpness? Anything else?

And what do you think we could adjust on the cameras to make the raw footage better?

looking at your "after" image on a cal'ed production monitor, it appears the image is too dark. I think the base levels are OK, but, the image needs more brightness. Sorry my answer is a bit subjective. Waveform is displaced to the lower end. Overall gamma slope is somewhat flat.
