live recording

I want to record a live mulicam setup in the hardisk through mac laptop, in a final cut pro. Can somone help regarding this, what video card I should use & how should I make a setup ?

You can't record multiple inputs at once with FCP. Check out Capture Magic SD or Capture Magic HD. It will allow multiple sources to be recorded at the same time.
If you don't want to record all cameras at the same time, look at DataVideo's SE800. It is a switcher with a FireWire output, as well as 4 firewire inputs.
Also, your video card doesn't affect your ability to record live video (just display it). Processor speed and hard drive speed will.

I just finished shooting(and broadcasting live via CCTV) a wedding with a multicam setup. I used the Datavideo SE 800 that Edward mentioned. That gave be a good outgoing signal for the live broadcast and for a rough cut DVD, and we just ran tape in our cameras to give me some options in post. I'm working on importing it into FCP as I type, and I'll fix any mistakes. I coordinated with my operators using common handheld radios(they wore headsets to keep them quiet).

One issue to be aware of is audio. In a professional set up, often each channel of audio will be recorded separately, but this is often not the case with smaller setups. I'd be interested to hear about how others get around that!

I'm not a huge fan of the Datavideo SE 800(especially after having used large professional boards), but it worked out fine. I'm still considering looking at other consoles with slightly more options.
