Movie premiere... will this work??
 

Hi there!

I have a movie premiering a month from today, and I'm trying to
get my tech ducks in a row.

The theater that is showing it has this for a setup:

DL.1 Digital Light - Digital Lighting - Products - High End Systems

(it's either the DL1 or the DL2)

Has anyone heard of or had any luck with this thing?

I am limited to a VGA input, so it wont project hi def correct?
(the movie was shot HDV)

My plan is to export the movie as one FCP Quicktime, then de-interlace
the entire thing in one pass through..

Any help, advice, tips, ANYTHING would be great as the stress is starting
to mount!

First, if you are really stressed a month away you will be totally burnt by the time of the event. Don't waste mental energy worrying.

That projector has a maximum resolution of 1024x768 so it is near 720p resolution so you likely can project HD from a computer whose media player will downsize to your projector acting as a VGA monitor. You should also be able to make a DVD and play that from a computer or DVD player into the video inputs on the projector. I doubt any projector would lack basic video input capability. If you can, bring both your computer and a DVD. If you must use their computer, find out its capabilities as HD is too much for some machines. To make it easier to play from a computer you might want to render to 720p to bring down the data flow.

Maybe 'stress' isn't the right word.. excitement? Anticipation? Stress is just part of the emotional rollercoaster.

I'm going to export a bunch of 1 minute clips with different settings and try them at the tech run through.. but what do you figure will work best?

I'm guessing a de-interlaced self contained FCP Quicktime and using the projector as a video playback window?

That sounds like a good plan. Use whatever works. I don't know your computer's specs so I can't give any more advice than to use a codec and resolution that hopefully won't overwork the machine. You might want to use one clip with different color corrections to see what looks best.
