35mm adapter worth it?

I'm directing my first short just purchased the HMC 150 and love the image. Really want a film cinematic look and am talking with my DP about getting a 35mm adapter. Will it really make that big of a difference in the look compared to what lens came with my HMC 150? Thanks!

You probably want to search through the Alternatve Methods forum down below. This topic has been discussed at great length here and elsewhere on the web; use the search function for hours of reading and debate! Google works too for this topic. And you can also search Vimeo and Exposure Room to see footage shot with and without adapters.

Having researched adapters-and chosen to use my money elsewhere- I can tell you that the adapter is not going to make or break your project. Story, lighting, sound should take precedence before worrying about DOF adapters. Yes, they'll add something but you'll need to practice with it well in advance of your project.

Consider renting one to find out for yourself. The adapter itself is just the start of a considerable expense associated with this route. You're going to need rails, lenses, a monitor for critical focus etc. When I priced the unit I was interested in, the adapter was $1800. The accessories for it were another $4,000!
