How should I clean my filters?

Anybody have a way of cleaning filters that they stand by? Just bought a batch of 43mm's on eBay and a few of them could use more than just a dusting with a lens pen. The UV filter I got is an HCE and needs some cleaning. As I want to keep a UV filter on the camera all the time, will I be sacrificing anything by not getting a new Hoya instead?

Thanks

I've posted on this topic several times (cleaning filters, cleaning lenses etc.). Topics can be searched by using the search button in the upper right corner.

Hehe, are there stratches on these e-bay'd filters? You can't clean that. Rust? Personally, I would have just gone with the Hoya UV. As for cleaning, take Jeff's advice---lots of cleaning info posted here. :)

My advice is to clean them well once then take care of them.
I would use a good quality AR cleaner and rub it in with my fingers. Wipe the glass clean using a lens tissue. Finish up with a microfiber cloth. ( a pack of 3 or 4 is under $5)

Using your fingertips won't hurt when you're using the liquid cleaner. you can actually feel any grit when you're rubbing, you can't with tissues. After that phase, keep your fingers off the lens.
