John Denver's last film: a VX1000 film?

Hi all,
I was watching PBS the other day and caught an amazing documentary titled "John Denver: Let there be a voice". In this film, they showed the crew using VX1000s on monopods, etc. They filmed in Alaska, Wyoming, Colorado, and other "western" areas of the US.

The footage was spectacular...I MEAN SPECTACULAR! It looked like film and even had the anamorphic look with the letterbox and all. Is this possible that they used the VX1000/20000?

The video is dated 1997 and you can still see some sample footage online here: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/denver/

What are your thoughts? Could this be done by the VX1000?

P.S.> I don't own a VX1000, but I've used it before for some shots.

It can be hard to tell what camera shot the footage. Something
they show you doesn't necessarely mean they actually used it
as well.

Then again, a simple DV camera can produce some stunning
images in the hands of someone who truly knows what he or
she is doing (imho).
