Another direct camera to hard drive resource
 

Check out this NAB press release. This is a battery powered hard drive for DV capture, direct fromthe camera. And, I might add, for a reasonable price.

Looks like the Firestore will have very stiff competition soon.

Considering from what I heard that firestore already had problems working with Adobe I sure hope ADS doesn't miss the mark.

At only $499 for the ADS I think I will buy one just to try it out.

Looks interesting, although for my purposes, it wouldn't work. I typically need 2+ hours for the theatre work that I mostly do. I just got my Firestore back after the V2.0 upgrade, so I'll be checking it out.

If all one needs is the 20GB, then it might be OK. However, the advantage of the Firestore is the capability to use any available capacity FW drive.

This is probably just a peek at the future -- the 60 gig unit that matches up to the back of the XL-1 is likely the next step, and after that, the replacement of the tape transport in its entirety.

The mind boggles at the possibilities in store for these puppies!

(My bride is gonna just LOVE all this new stuff coming out!)

A follow-up on my last post....

I checked out the upgraded Firestore. It appears to work OK, with the exception of mounting the FW drive using MAC OS 10.1.3. It mounts OK using OS 9.2. The Focusinfo web site indicates a Firestore formatted disk should mount OK with OS 10.1 or better, so I fired off a note to their tech support. The jury is still out on this one....

Their web page also noted that they fixed a problem with Adobe Premier, so that might alleviate the concern expressed by backlash.

Previously, the Slave mode didn't work properly with my XL-1 -- that works OK now.

Overall, with the exception, it appears to be a good upgrade.
