Opinions on Panasonic AG-DV2000

Still researching decks. Any thoughts on using the Panasonic AG-DV2000. I've considered Sony and JVC decks and need some advice on the DV2000. I plan to edit with Vegas and the tapes are all from a GL2 camera.

Thanks,

Rick

What's your budget and your needs?

I've heard many recommendations for the Sony DSR-11. You probably can't go wrong with that deck if you can afford it.

Or you could just use another camcorder... It has its own tradeoffs.

DV2000

I have used this unit for about 2 years. It is the backbone of my dv editing system. It uses the mini and full size dv tapes. It plays, but won't record, the dvcam format.

There's lots of in and out ports and it works with my dvrex editing system.

The deck is so reliable and easy to use that I almost forget about it altogether. It just works!

If you can still get one, I recommend it.

I use this deck with Vegas and it has done a great job. Lots of inputs and outputs. Allows previewing on an external monitor.

Here's one great feature: We produce some videos for a funeral home. The final tape is about 1 hour long but is produced from multiple copies of a 7 to 9 minute video. We can start the print to tape, hit record on the DV2000 and an attached VCR. At the end of the first segment, we can stop and eject the miniDV tape and the VCR never notices a thing!

Vegas also does a great job at controlling this deck for batch capturing.

Thanks for the opinions guys! I now feel comfortable with purchasing this deck. I know it is discontinued and it actually has dropped way down in price- to $1100 new. My first option is to look at good used units but even new it seems affordable. Thanks again!
