anybody have the dimentions for a 15mm rods system?
 

Im gonna make a 15mm rods system for my PanDV953 and matte box and was wondering what the standard distance between the rods is, im gonna try to model the Chrosziel miniDV version

here is a link of an ebay auction for the same one im gonna copy, It should be really easy and cheap, probably one can be made for about $15 and a few hours on the lathe/mill. Oh and sorry guys I cant make them for other people if there is a patent on the item, legally speaking I can just make it just for my purposes, but I could post plans!

I think it will mainly depend on the size of your mattebox etc.
Don't think there is universal correct size or something.

Just in case no-one is forthcoming with the official dimensions...

I don't know the 'official' dimensions for 15 mm Arri lightweight rods, but I could measure some as accurately as I can if you want. However, I wouldn't recommend doing it that way. I assume that you are going to buy a matte box - so buy the matte box and measure for yourself. (I'm guessing that it will be an easy-to-remember number of millimetres - 19 mm rods are 100 mm apart as I recall)

All of the specials I've had made for me have incorporated some means of aligning the rod axis with the lens axis, vertically and laterally.

Some of the 15 mm equipment I have, such as the Modular Blue stuff, has very tight tolerances with respect to the rod separation.

There is also a standard thread for the rod ends. Are you buying rods or making them? Again, I could measure the threads on mine if you want. Rods are available commercially in a variety of lengths.

As far as I know there is no patent problem selling rod adaptors: lots of film equipment companies do it. The only problem would be if you made a direct copy of someone else's design I suppose. If you can supply adaptors more cheaply than anyone else, go for it.

The 15 mm rods for Chrosziel and cavision are the same. I own a 15mm rod support. Email me and tell me which dimensions you want. Look at the 15mm as well as the 8mm mini. I laso have a price list that includes components.

These rods are carbon fiber and the plates are adonized aluminum. They sell the Rods separate. The mini rod support with a 3x3 matte box would be ideal for your camera. one of the people from the PDX10 forum bought one .

Just as side note. I looked at everything they had in their office and it was very well finished stuff. I looked at everything, from pretty well everywhere and it was the best bang for the buck.

I really think the full size would be way to big for your camera .

well here it is!

I finally got some work done on it. Cost about $15us, and about 3 hours of time. It weighs about a pound and is stong as an ox!

Now I just need a good matte box and finish buiding my Alain35 system.
