camcorder problems

i just got a new camcorder, and everytime i try to record something, it records for about five seconds and then stops. Then the power button starts to flash and it goes off. I can only play things too for about 5-10 seconds and then it shuts off. The battery is full and the tape has tape left on it, the only thing i dont understand is that it says index underneath the counter when i start to record something. Im gonna try it with a new tape later, i called the company and they said that i might need to send it in if i cant figure it out. I did figure out that it was eating all of my tapes that ive used. Thanks if you know anything and can help me

Kyle, even though you don't state which make and model of camcorder you have, I think based on your description that it's a clear-cut case for the manufacturer's service center. Be sure to let us know how it goes,

It is normal to see "index" flash on the viewfinder or lcd of some camcorders at the start of recording so don't worry about that.

If the abnormal termination of recording happens running off an a/c adapter, then there is definitely a fault with the camera vs. blaming a battery. Also check for a kink in the tape.

These should be the final tests before sending it off to a servicenter.
