Sundance entry edited on Imovie with $220 budget

I’d say what a lucky guy, but from the subject matter, I guess he wasn’t so lucky.

Awesome link, Marco. Wow. What a story. I hope the festival circuit treats him well.

Edited on iMovie. Incredible.

Yet another illustration that determination and creativity reign supreme over stuff.

Given the corporatized nature of Sundance I'd be surprised if the film draws more than curious interest. But that's really beside the core point, which is that the film made it into the festival at all.

Who knows. Maybe in 5-7 years this fellow will be making "Spy Kids 16" after Rodriguez retires to spend full time with his collection of Bentleys.

Isn't it amazing that the 'big-time' editing programs weren't needed. I'd bet there isn't a 3-D transition in the movie.

seems the link doesn't work...might be becaue it's a year old, hah.

Found this old thread cuz I was searching 'budget' in topics only. Now I'm interested in knowing what it was about!

Friend of mine is shooting documentary stuff on DVX, and regularly edit in iMovie. I like his work, and his TV bosses dont't know and care about his editing machine (it's BTW iMac G3 running on 400 MHz with external 120 gigs drive). All that matters is that he's producing great stuff and audience and TV producers like it and pay for it...

Can you point us in the right direction, I looked everywhere for the story and I can't find it. What is it called??

Thanks

If it's the movie from last year's Sundance, then I think your talking about the movie Tarnation. It was recently released in theaters, but I don't think it lasted long. Mainly arthouse/indie theaters...it played at the Belcourt in Nashville, TN if I'm not mistaken.

Richard Alvarez January 24th, 2005 02:45 PM

Right Tarnation it was. Basically a story compiled from old super 8 footage, vhs and newer stuff.

The lesson here is that compelling stories, well told are more important than the technology used to create them. Yo don't NEED all the latest gear to make a great movie, you need a great story.
