Resin vs. Glass Filters

-- Are resin filters as good as glass filters? I've noticed that they do cost less, but I'm not sure of how good of quality the filters would give me.

Thanks,

Corey Cook

Century Precision Optics VS-FH44 Sunshade Filterholder

I've noticed that at www.centuryoptics.com, the product description on this item says that it can hold two 4x4" glass filters. However, at www.bhphotovideo.com, the product description says that it holds resin filters. What does this mean? Can the filterholder at bhphotovideo still hold glass filters?

Also, what is a good 72mm step up ring? (specifics please) I've seen that one is needed for operation of the sunshade.

Thanks,

C. Cook

Glass ones are heavier, more robust to scratches, less robust to drops, thicker, optically smoother, and much more expensive than resin ones.

If you plan to use them every day - go glass. Otherwise go resin and take care.

Come to think of it, take care either way...

Julian

I have some Cokin (resin) screw-in filters, the results are very good, but---yes---I have to take care, unlike glass filters.
