Still Images to PAL video questions.
 

Hello Friends,

I've recently completed my first short movie and during the making of this movie I learned lots of stuff but there are some things I'm still not sure about and I think it would be to great ask from you experienced people out there in the field how should I go about it in future.

Here is what I did...

I worked on a stop motion movie and took all the pictures using Cannon Rebel XT at 3456 x 2304 resolution which I later converted to 720 x 480 using kigo image converter and assembled them into avi(720 x 480) using virtual dub. I've put the finished movie on PAL dvd and it plays great on my computer and 4:3 TV.

My question is: Do you think I should have gone with higher resolution like 900 x 600 when converting the image size and created an avi out of this higher resolution.

Other thing I want to know is what image size should I create in the graphics program if I want to use it along the footage in my editor at 4:3

It would be great if you guys can answer these question and help me learn more so that I can adjust my future work flow for optimum output.

If you are working down to PAL, then 720 or 768 X 576 is more usual

Canopus Imaginate
 

If you resize your pictures BEFORE bringing them into your NLE, you're locked to that reduced resolution.

There is a dying software out there, called Imaginate, which will import your stills at original resolution and lets you manipulate them pretty much any way you want WITHOUT reducing the resolution - does that only at final export.

Unfortunately Canopus stopped development on it a long time ago, but you might still be able to pick up a copy some place. It's also the best software for slide show to video.
