Acheiving this effect...
 

Hey whats up ? I need some assistance in figuring out how to do this certain effect. Its in the music video " Numb" by Linking Park. Its where the girl is sitting in a classroom and all the kids are leaving and they are in fast motion but she just stays there in normal time. Like everything except her is fast motion. I really dont have a clue how to acheive this and naybe one of you could help me out

Is she singing? If so, take the song and reduce the speed by 50%. Burn that to a CD and have her practice lip synching to it at the slow rate, making sure to make her movements slow and smooth. Shoot it like that, but have everyone else move around at normal speed.

In post, increase the clip speed by 50% so that she's now at normal speed...and voila!

Hmm....could do that.

I've seen that Linkin Park video, and my guess is that she performed infront of a blue/green screen while the rest were shot at a high frame rate on the set and sped up a lot in post. If anyone passes infront of her than they were probably performing infront of a blue/green screen too.

Sounds fairly simple to do.

from the look of the clip, its most likely a higher frame rate with increased velocity, however as mentioend she was probably moving at half or slower speed...

the compositing explaination is probably something along the lines of Linkin Park budget, so it wouldnt surprise me if that is the actual method they used...

If you have a static camera you can also record her alone and then
everyone else seperate. Compositing is very easy in that case.

Becomes much much much harder with a moving camera.

Cutting to different angles is a possability as well, but involves
more work. I haven't seen the video myself.
