Synchronising sound and Video from different sources

What software is best for synchronising the audio collected by Mini Disc and the Video footage collect by Camcorder.

Do I have to use any application to clean the sound before joining it with the Video

I would be great full for any help you can supply

Most good NLE's can clean up the sound, if that's all that's needed. Sony Vegas has some very good sound tools for this. You might want to think about using some device to make a sound to indicate the exact sync point. The old slate boards were great for this. I use a whistle or some other noisemaker- give about three loud blasts- these sound "peaks" can then be lined up on the timeline.

Absent a slate, I pan one source to the left and the other to the right. It is easy to then sync them up.
