GAIN UP causing overexposure outdoors?

Just curious. Has anybody experienced GAIN UP being ON (as is the FACTORY PRESET on my JVC PD1) causing overexposure when shooting outdoors?

If you're shooting with high gain on any camera in bright light it's going to most likely be beyond the limitations of the iris and ND filter and will not allow you to expose properly.
