Recording 2 exposures simultaneously?

Hey all!

Is there anyway possible to record 2 different exposures simultaneously?... ie, expose for highlights and expose for shadows at the same time???

Ive thought about shooting off a mirror with 2 cameras, but I don`t know how it would work exactly.

Any thoughts???....

I imagine we will see digital still cameras with two CCD in back of a beam splitter with one CCD receiving slightly more than 1/2 the light the second CCD receives. That way, with judicious image processing, they could capture a scene with more dynamic range than they do now.

No reason why that couldn't be accomplishe in a video camera although the price of a 6 CCD camera would probably give one pause.

You can of course emulate this with a tripod mounted camera, a little aperature adjustment and no motion in the scene.

this camera and cool dynamic range mthod was discussed...

...and it doesn't use 6 CCDs ;)
