DVInfo Net Chat

Hey Chris!

Ever consider adding chat? I notice people being online when I'm here in the community...would be nice to be able to chat with them!

There's not much reason to reinvent the wheel here. The Canopus forum sporadically visits a java-based chat on Tuesdays:

Out of all the Java chats out there, this one seems to be fairly stable and snappy. There's no reason why Watchdog visitors can't use it.

The only way to improve on that is to go with an IRC chat. I've found these to be more robust and include features like file transfers, side chats, and URL catching. Client software/shareware/freeware is available for all platforms (PC,Mac,etc) Sending pictures and vidclips during the chat or being able to click on URLs mentioned might be useful. Last thing I'd want to do though is pull traffic away from Chris's message board. This is absolutely the best information source on the web for DV...and the best group of members I've ever seen on a message board. I check the DVInfo Community board for new posts daily as much as I check for new e-mail. There's great stuff to be shared here. No other page on the web pulls me in its direction like this one does.

So, chat was just a recommendation...but not at the expense of detracting from Chris's community.

Nah, John, I don't really mind it, because I know those guys... Socrates Buenger runs that server, and it's for Mike Martin's Videographer's Forum, which is listed as a Top 10 Resource on my site.

I've participated in their chat before and I know that crowd. They're cool. What I might do in the future is put my own spin on that concept... can't give away any details at the moment... but I'll make it worthwhile.

Thanks,
