Quick "color/brightness" correction question

I have a series of clips... some were bathed in sunlight and others were shot when the sun was behind a cloud. I've tweaked them with various filters (including Magic Bullet). Back to back they don't look too "disruptive" and flow pretty good... but what I'd like to do is take the higher sunlight clips and lower the really highs... I guess it would be similar to is puting a Low Pass filter on some audio to get ready of the really high frequencies...
So, is there a way to adjust the brightness of just the high values, without effecting or minimally effecting the rest of the images? I have premiere 6.5 and AE 6.0 at my disposal....

Thanks in advance...

Using AfterEffects, you can apply Effect -> Adjust -> Curves. Add a slight falloff at the top of the curve to darken just the brightest areas of the image. Or you can use Effect -> Adjust -> Levels and reduce the output white value, but that's a little harsher and doesn't give you as much control.
