multiple camera shoot - help
 

We are going to run a concert in our church (very soon). We would like to place two cannon GL-2 cameras on stage to capture video, run cables 125' to switcher, then 100 feet to projector. The Gl-2 cameras and projector we have.

What would you recommend for cables (150') each, and switcher?

Probably need to stay below 3k if possible ... don't want to give the elders a stroke!

This all happens in 13 days! ...

Cables:
Prices vary widely for the same quality cable. It pays to shop around- go to real electronics stores with reasonable pricing, not Best Buy or Radioshack.

For analog mixers, get co-axial cable and co-ax to RCA adapters. If you want to carry S-video signals (which offer better quality), then you need a pair of co-axial cables and the right adapters. So that would be 4 cables. Ask for a wiring diagram if necessary.

You could also buy S-video cables if they're cheap enough.
cablewholesale.com may also be a place to look for cables if you live in the US.

Switcher:
New models are expensive!!!

The Panasonic MX50 would be an excellent choice since it's cheap and does what you need it to, but it is difficult to buy. You can go through eBay, but it's eBay (risky, and a PITA for accounting). Watch out for used mixers, they may be damaged.

Videonics MX1 is an inferioir analog mixer but also works. It may be worth buying if you can find it. It's cheap.

Analog mixers go for around $600USD on eBay. You need a 2-input mixer.

Buying a new mixer: The new models are a lot more expensive than older stuff. Many of this site's sponsors carry mixers. You may want to call them up and ask for discounts, B&H for example lists a high price for the lowest end Videonics mixer.

Rent a mixer: For a one-time thing, I would go this route.

3- You also need an intercom or walkie talkies + isolating headphones, monitors (maybe), good tripods, filmers and a director who have worked out a system for shooting.
