Is it possible?

DVX100 and Canon XL

You might be able to do it if they both have LANC inputs.

On most cameras the tape mechanism takes some time to start and stop. That might give you problems.

What exactly are you trying to do?

we just need to have two cams shooting the same thing from different perspectives. One operator and we hoped to have synced stop/start.

we have a DVX and are deciding on a second camera to buy.

I assume if we get another DVX the problem would be solved by just using the remote for both, right?


but we are consdiering the XL2 so we can have 16:9 and I assume this would be harder to do.

You could always use a slate or the flash from a camera so you can sync the two perspectives in post. If you do a lot of cuts that might be a mild PITA (pain in the ass).

If you just let the tape run, you only have to sync things up once. You also have to take good logs (it ain't hard).

I'm not too sure what the solutions for syncing are... other people should be able to chip in here.

2- If you get the same cameras, the colors will be the same. With two different ones you have to figure out if they are close enough for your needs (my guess is they will be, but I've never compared the two so I couldn't say).

It is very unlikely that two separate electromechanical systems will have the same reaction time. They have separate clocks, separate responses to stimuli, etc. I'd guess you could easily be several frames off.
