Canon ZR80
 

Anyone have and experience with a Canon ZR80?

Since they are about $350 I might be interested.

Your thoughts would be great.

What are you using it for ? I have a brand new Canon ZR60 im trying to sell for 250.00. Not sure if you are interested tohugh. for outdoor shooting the ZR's are great, for indoor, you need to add alot of light. They are a good little camera for sure, at least in the 1 Chip section. I also have a ZR60. a good little cam. Better than the new ZR80 in my opinion. Both models share the same electronics, but the ZR80 is 15% smaller. But to acheive this, they have dropped the external mic jack.

Im interested for sure.

I plan on using the camera for a bunch of different things.

- B Roll for Weddings - just rear audience facing shots of the couple on stage - QUICK CUT AWAYS ONLY.

- A decent little Cam. I can keep with me in the car for the heck of it. Catch those great 4x4 Offroad moments and who knows what else. Beats keeping the XL1s in the car.

- The composit in feature is very tempting too. I can hook up an external helmet camera for shooting more B Roll for the Fire Academy. Send it into the fire room and strap it to the roof of the truck for 4x4ing.

How does the picture compare to others? I understand its a SMALL one chip camera and not ideal for comparison to the XL1.

I would not consider a Canon ZR for wedding B-roll or any other similar paying shoot. The image quality just isn't there. Any current Canon Optura (with an RGB color filter) will be a much better match for your XL1. Intercut video from a ZR with an XL1 and it'll look like night and day, there's such a disparity there.

For home or vacation use, the ZR is fine, plus it makes a nice little DV deck.

I've got a little ZR60 that I use for that exact situation... external helmet camera feeding the composite in. The ZR60 fits inside my helmet on top of my head. Completely self contained helmet camera... no wires running down into your turn-outs.
I'll take a picture when I get a chance.
