Need help PRETTY fast..
 

Hey guys. I have a chance to purchase a Hitachi Studio camera. Comes with viewfinder and EVERYTHING. Though, there is no recording device on it, since it is for a studio. There is however a BNC Video out, of course. now, is there anyway for me to possibly use that to record directing to a Digital8 or a miniDV camera ? See I was to use this for ENG, I just do not have a way to record the video. Please help me guys, and i need to know relatively fast. Here is a pic of the connector incase you wanted to see ..

You should be able to use a BNC to RCA adapter, which will carry a composite signal.

From your DV/digital8 camera:
Set it to convert analog / A/V --> DV
Use the camcorder cable for it (minijack to triple RCA).
Use a female-female RCA adapter if necessary.
Connect the camcorder's RCA to the RCA-BNC adapter on the studio camera.

Notes:
Composite connection is not that good quality. S-video and component would be better.

Is the camera for use in the field or studio?
What's your intended use for this camera?

Assuming that this BNC carries standard NTSC composite video then yes, you should be able to record it on anything that has composite NTSC video input i.e. most consumer/prosumer cameras. The XL2 even has a BNC connector on it (though I can't rememember if it can be used for in as well as out). With other cameras a BNC to RCA phono adapter (available at Radio Shack) will be required. I'd suggest testing this before buying because you may be disappointed in the results. The studio camera is going to deliver more resolution than you will be able to capture to DV or any other consumer/prosumer medium. If that's OK with you then you should have no problem.

Another thought is to go to a video capture card and transfer directly to the hard disc of a computer.

Thanks guys. Glenn I plan to use it in studio ( Where I could use a CCU and eck)...as well as in the feild for some ENG. All I plan to do is put the miniDV Camera in my backpack and have it all set up to record.

Pardon me, I didnt know Y/C was Svideo..im a bit..behind so to speak. Ill just do SVIDEO out to my deck then.
