Making DV capture software

Hello,

Due to a recent movie project, I developed quite a number of software solutions (SFX, film look, capture, video analysis, stop motion, etc.)

I also decided make my own DV capture software to incorporate some things I could not find in other software.

I am thinking of releasing some of this software in the future.

My background is in physics and software development in computer graphics.

I am new to this forum (just found it), and would like to know if there are some people that would like to beta test.

If you are interested in beta testing you will need:

-DV camera
-PC running windows (above 1Ghz)
-Good HD space
-Firewire port

Thanks.

Hello,

I'd defintely like to assist as I can; it sounds like an intersting project.

I can satisfy all of the above requirements with ease (dv, server 2003 as workstation, dual opteron, attached fibre arrays, fw). my focus isnt specifically film production, but i integrate video with 3d on a regular basis (opusthirteen dot com).

Too bad you can't do this for the Mac crowd. The number of edit systems in that base is huge in comparison to PCs...

Jeff,

You are in. I will send you more information via email. I think I have some pleasant surprises in store :)

Shane,

Unfortunately I only program under the Windows platform :( Who knows, perhaps some day I will program for Mac too.

What kind of things are you looking to incorporate?

Alain Bellon January 31st, 2005 08:25 PM

Brandon,

Well I have already incorporated many things.

When working on the movie, I developed quite a few analysis tools for the film look filters (histograms, waveforms, etc). They proved useful for post prod work, so I thought of using them for live capture. I also combined some features from my media cataloguer for easy browsing of captured clips.

If you have suggestions and things you would like to see, I can add you to the beta testing list.

Sure, I'd be glad to help out.

Sounds like kind of a DVRack-ish setup.

What are you writing it in?

Alain Bellon February 1st, 2005 10:32 AM

Brandon,

I have added you to the list. I'll send information and some screenshots shortly.

I also have VisualStudio .NET Pro installed, so if you need an outside system running debug tools, I might be able to help there too.
