Ext. hard drives

I'm using vegas 4. Will upgrade to 5 and a fx1 in the near future. I've been using a lap top of 80GB and want to get a external Hard drive. What brands out there are reliable and great to work with for my future set up.

Thanks!!

I've moved your post to our general forum since it has nothing
to do with editing or HDV.

Probably get a firewire drive with the oxford 911 chipset. It's generally fast and reliable from what I can figure out.

Avoid the prolific USB2/firewire combination chipsets... they have serious problems.

You can save a little money if you put together your own firewire drive. You need an enclosure and then you buy a hard drive (IDE/ATA). For the enclosure, look for:
chipset
cooling: either uses a noisy fan, or is aluminium and the case acts as a heatsink.
some enclosures are rack-mount friendly if you like that.

If you want something easy, then get a Lacie drive.
