Frame rate question

I have an XL2 and FCP HD and am not sure what frame rate to shoot in. I have been told that you only shoot in 24p if you want to edit and the output to film and that for any other purpose that 24p shouldn't be used because of issues with the dvd authoring and dropping frames. I understand that this is a really simple question and if you have a book that might help me get over this learning curve that might be helpful.

No. Only shoot 24 PA (progressive Advanced) of you intend on going to film. Does the XL2 have a setting for 24PA? I only thought the DVX-100a had that.

24P gives your footage the film feel, but stick to the 29.97 frame rate.

The 2:3:3:2 pull-down is for film out. 2:3 is for TV playback. The XL2 gives you the choice of 2:3, or 2:3:3:2.

Set the Frame Rate to 24P, then:

Hit the Menu button>
>Camera Setup
>24P Mode Sel
> 2:3, or 2:3:3:2

In 2:3:3:2 mode, "24P" appears in orange, but that doesn't help me because I'm using the B&W finder.

24P Advanced is on the DVX100 /100A.
