Natty Filter Container?

[ note to Ken & Robin: please put this where you think it is going to get best .. . er . . . exposure! ]

I have now built a respectable "library" of 4"x4" glass filters. What is your preferred way of keeping them about your person AND being safe while out in the open on a shoot? These are Formatt's, and they come with their own dinky velcroed, really tough pouch - nice! I've thought about "sticking" heavy duty LARGE hooks 'n eyes onto the rear of these things and putting the other part on a belt or some such "bondage-type" gizmo around my bod! - However others might have better/other solutions?

Tell you what though, and this IS the relevance of firstly posting here, is that these filters sure make my 'umble XM2 fly! Some of the pics are, in my mind, outstanding! Well I think so . . .

That's actually a good question, Grazie.

I have most of mine in a Kata "wallet" that stores perhaps 6-8. It's not really a good solution since the wallet is simply a nylon accordion.

I have seen fellows use what appears to be a Pelican case to store these filters, a far sturdier solution although I do not know how these case's innards are built or configured. Two years ago I was watching a local film shoot on which the camera operator had a large case, again Pelican-style, filled with filters. The case featured a combination lock and was actually guarded by an assistant at all times. With the price of these things I guess I shouldn't have been taken aback.

So I've never come across a truly sturdy case designed specifically for these filter...and I have looked. One day I will probably attempt to create a hard case from a Pelican or Storm shell.

I keep mine in a Storm case (like a Pelican) that has a divider down the middle; my 20+ filters all ride on one side and meters in the other side. I keep the filters in the pouches. There used to be cases with individual dividers like a dish rack (covered with felt) to store filters out of the pouches, but it turned out that they tended to chip on the edges so everyone is back to the pouch system again.

Charles thank you.

Oh yes! I can see the value in keeping them in their own "as-purchased" pouches, but do you still keep them in the felt? I find the felt bothersome while out shooting - bit of a wind and off they go! Do you think I'm loking for trouble/scratches if their get slid back into the pouches as it where "naked"? Mine are the glass Formatts - they have a protective metal edge running all the way around the 4mm thick 4x4 elements.

TIA,

Grazie

Yes, we use them "naked"--just have to make sure to blow out the pouches every now and then if you use them around sand, etc.
