underscan?

is there am inline device between cam and tv so that i can see the full frame on the tv? i don't have a monitor with underscan.

If you use a laptop with DVRack you can see the full frame. As well, I think the Sony Vegas capture utility shows the full frame too.

Some viewfinders and flip-out LCDs show the full frame... and others don't.

From what I've read, almost none of the viewfinders an LCD's on our prosumer cameras underscan. In fact, the only one that I think offers this is the Z-1 via a menu selection.

On the Mac you could use BTV Pro to see the full frame, it's inexpensive shareware and has lots of other useful functions as well. I sort of doubt you'll find any sort of inexpensive box to to reduce the frame size for your monitor however, if such a thing exists it would probably cost nearly as much as a new monitor.

If you're using a TV set you could try entering service mode and changing the scan size. I've done this on a Sony set and it helped but still didn't quite show the whole frame. See the instructions here, but also heed the cautions!

thanks for your replies. my question was geared more on using crt tv sets. i don't like lcds on shoots and can't buy a pro monitor just yet. will try to adjust tv.

sure. the service mode worked quite well, but i'll probably have to draw action safe lines
