LCD pixel size

Hello,

Not sure if this is the right forum for this.. Anyway I have been looking at LCD flat screens, as I need one to display an HDV output.. Which is 1440X1080 in resolution.. Ok here is what is a little confusing.. a lot of the LCD monitors(I am not using for computer display, just as a video disply) I have been looking at list in its specs that they are 1366 pixels X 768 pixels.. I am guessing this has no correlation to the HDV resolution size (1440 X 1080) but it is a little confusing to me..So i guess the question is will this monitor display the full resolution of this video signal??

Thanks,
Mike Moncrief

Remember that 1080x1440 is anamorphic, so if you display it in that format everything will be tall and skinny. But (as I understand it) the camera does the unstretching and outputs a 1080i image which would be 1920x1080. Since these are square pixels, 1920/1080 = 1.778 = 16:9.

So if you want to see the full resolution you need a monitor with 1920x1080 pixels and that will be BIG bucks for an LCD. However most 16:9 HD LCD monitors can accept a 1080i signal and will downscale it to fit the screen (1280x720 or 1366x768 for example).

Thanks Boyd. I was trying to figure outthe same thing, forgot all about aspect ratios. Here is a 24" LCD that seems reasonable in price. It was $200 cheaper last week. I guess I snoozed too long.

Actually John, you can still get the $200 off if you look up the monitor in Dell's "Home & Home Office" section. (rather than small business)

Unfortunately, there is a three week wait on shipping.

Hello,

Ok thanks for the responses.. So it looks like the LCD's can display the HDV video.. But you may not be seeing it ina ll of its glory..
