recording time and date.

There are times I want to be able to record the time and date. I know it's on the time code and all that. But can I just record the date and time on to the tape so when I view the tape or transfer to VHS the date and time will be there. Like for a video deposition. Some of my old camcorders you could just push a button and it would record the time and date. It was kind of handy sometimes. Can the XL1-s do this?

Yes you can. See p. 62 of your manual. It's under the "System" selection of the camera's menu. "Char Rec"--- on/off .

How about I try this. I get some AAA batteries for the remote control. I plug the XL1s into a VCR. I push the Data Code button, so the time and date appear. then push play and record on the VCR and it should record the time and date. Right? It worked on my Sony.

The whole manual is in French? Mine is divided into 3 languages with each numbered independently. Anyway, I think you now have the general idea of where to find this feature. You don't have to go through all of the maneuvers of your earlier post.
