Steve.

You have two options. The original, 'old school' method of splicing tape. This means you cut up the film, splice it together with tape, and project the assembled footage. You'll need an 8mm Editor/viewer to view the footage for selecting the cuts. There's something neat about setting up the projector and showing it to friends.

OR

Transfer the footage to tape, import to your computer and use in an NLE. There are several labs and services that will perform a telecine for you.(Or do a search under 'poor man's telecine' to find out how to do it yourself) Reversal stocks like Ektachrome, Kodachrome and Tri-X, Plus-X will yield positive images, that are telecined to tape.

You can also shoot the newer Vision 200 stock in negative form. It is then processed and telecined directly to tape.

http://www.moviestuff.tv/ for info on transfer services and transfer systems.

http://www.super8sound.com/main.php for infor on negative stock, cameras and telecine services. Other labs around too, so do a search under 'super 8'. It's still a viable medium, and is actually growing in sales.
